Survey of Rural Broadband Service

A survey conducted by NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association provides insight into broadband and internet service by rural telephone companies. NTCA has conducted the survey for nearly two decades.  Based on the survey, 72% of customers in NTCA members’ service areas receive broadband service.

According to the report:

This year’s survey asked about technologies used to provide broadband service in ILEC service areas, broadband availability and subscription rates, anchor institutions, fiber deployment, competitive ISP broadband services, competition, fixed wireless broadband services, mobile voice and broadband data service, internet backbone and middle mile connections, and video service.

The report indicates speeds in the service areas have steadily increased when compared to prior years, and a substantial portion (75%) are served by fiber, which is 5.1% more than the prior year’s survey.
