USDA Reports on Farm Supplies Sold by Co-ops

The USDA Rural Development Division and Cooperative Services Branch of the US Department of Agriculture reported that in 2019 co-ops sold $53.2 billion in farm supplies including $18.9 billion in petroleum and energy products (36% of total net farm supplies sold by co-ops), $10.7 billion in fertilizer (20% of total net sales), $9.9 billion in feed (19% of total net sales), $3.4 billion in crop protectants (10% of total net sales), $4.6 billion in other supplies (9% of total net sales), and $3.4 million in seed (6% of total net sales).

Iowa led the farm supply sales by ag co-ops, with $6.8 billion in net sales of petroleum, feed, and fertilizer (12.8% of the total net sales), followed by Minnesota with sales of $5.1 billion (6% of total net sales), and Illinois ranking third with $4.8 billion in sales of crop protectants and seed (9.1% of total net sales). The top 5 states accounted for $23.3 billion (43.8% of total net sales) and the top 10 accounted for $35.9 billion (57.5% of total net sales), with Wisconsin leading in other farm supply sales.
