McKenzie Electric, Basin Electric at Odds Over Rates

McKenzie Electric Cooperative recently filed a lawsuit seeking damages from its supplier Upper Missouri G&T Electric Cooperative and electricity generator Basin Electric Cooperative. McKenzie Electric is claiming that rate increases since 2016 violate state law and breaches contractual agreements. The dispute arises out of a synthetic fuels plant, Dakota Gasification Co.’s Great Plains Synfuels Plant, which McKenzie Electric contends is losing money.

McKenzie Electric is seeking a jury trial, and Basin and Upper Missouri have asked for the case to be dismissed. A hearing has not yet been set. See the following for more information:
